While practical, this setup can be hazardous without proper safety measures. Unfortunately, many colleges and universities overlook the importance of bunk bed safety rails, putting students at risk of serious injury.<\/p>\n<p>Clark Jacobs, a former Mechanical Engineering major at Georgia Tech, learned this the hard way. A fall from his seven-foot-high loft bed resulted in a traumatic brain injury that nearly claimed his life. Clark\u2019s experience is a powerful reminder of the hidden dangers elevated beds can pose without the protection of safety rails.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"paragraph-widget paragraph-widget--data-point\">\n\t<div class=\"idf-block data-point--single\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"data-point\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"data-point__title-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"data-point__title\">71,000<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<hr\/>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"data-point__description-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"data-point__description\">More than 70,000 cases of loft bed\/bunk bed-related injuries occur annually among children and young adults up to 21 years of age.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"data-point__description-link\" href=\"https:\/\/railagainstthedanger.org\/\"  target=\"_blank\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRail Against the Danger\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"paragraph-widget paragraph-widget--text-html\">\n\t<div class=\"idf-block text-content\">\n\t\t<h2>A mission for change<\/h2>\n<p>In the aftermath of her son\u2019s near-fatal accident, Mariellen Jacobs took action. She founded <a href=\"https:\/\/railagainstthedanger.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rail Against the Danger<\/a> (RAD) to raise awareness about the serious risks of bunk and loft bed injuries. Without safety rails, the height of these beds \u2014 often over six feet high \u2014 can turn a simple accident into a life-threatening situation. Falling from a bunk or loft bed can cause severe injuries, including head trauma, broken bones, and long-term disabilities.Bunk bed safety rails act as a vital barrier, providing essential support to prevent falls and protect against head injuries.
