State and local programs, such as DMVs, libraries, and courts, must ensure access.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Employment:<\/strong> Employers cannot discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in hiring or promotion. They may ask about job abilities but not disabilities and must provide reasonable accommodations like larger workspaces or extra breaks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transportation:<\/strong> Public transit systems from 1992 onward must be accessible. Paratransit services must be available unless it causes undue burden.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public spaces:<\/strong> Private businesses like restaurants, hotels, and stores must accommodate individuals with disabilities. This results in many people feeling cold almost all of the time. This is especially true for people who have higher-level injuries. Reduced circulation can make the extremities feel cold while the body is warm. Keeping the entire body warm in cold temperatures is important for the body to work properly and avoid tissue injury or hypothermia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                                  <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n          <div class=\"accordion__accordion\">\n      <h3 class=\"accordion__title\" id=\"flush-heading_8553_3\">\n        <button class=\"accordion__trigger\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#flush-collapse_8553_3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"flush-collapse_8553_3\">\n          Time management<span class=\"sp-before-icon\"><\/span>\n        <\/button>\n      <\/h3>\n      <\/h2>\n      <div role=\"region\" id=\"flush-collapse_8553_3\" class=\"accordion__content\" aria-labelledby=\"flush-heading_8553_3\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionFlush8553\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__content-wrap text-content\"><p>Always give yourself extra time to get to your destination.<\/p>\n<p>If you think it will take 10 minutes to push to your destination, then allow yourself 20 to 25 minutes to get there. Dysreflexia is usually only experienced by individuals with a T-6 level of injury and above. However, knowing and understanding this information is important for people with all injury levels.<\/p>\n<h4>Potential signs and symptoms<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Red face or red blotches on the skin<\/li>\n<li>Excruciating headache<\/li>\n<li>Sweating above the level of injury<\/li>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li>Cold, clammy skin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Treatment<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Remove any stomach binders and TED hose<\/li>\n<li>Head-to-toe check. Say, \u201cThanks, but I can order for myself, and I would like a Coke.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n                                  <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n          <div class=\"accordion__accordion\">\n      <h3 class=\"accordion__title\" id=\"flush-heading_2053_5\">\n        <button class=\"accordion__trigger\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#flush-collapse_2053_5\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"flush-collapse_2053_5\">\n          No accessible seating where you can sit next to your friend or family<span class=\"sp-before-icon\"><\/span>\n        <\/button>\n      <\/h3>\n      <\/h2>\n      <div role=\"region\" id=\"flush-collapse_2053_5\" class=\"accordion__content\" aria-labelledby=\"flush-heading_2053_5\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionFlush2053\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__content-wrap text-content\"><ul>\n<li>Transfer into a chair.<\/li>\n<li>Sit in your wheelchair in an aisle next to a chair.<\/li>\n<li>See if there is a chair that your friend can move to where there is accessible seating.<\/li>\n<li>Talk to the manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n                                  <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"paragraph-widget paragraph-widget--text-html\">\n\t<div class=\"idf-block text-content\">\n\t\t<h2>Terrain management<\/h2>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"paragraph-widget paragraph-widget--accordion idf-block accordion\" id=\"accordionFlush2463\">\n            <div class=\"accordion__accordion\">\n      <h3 class=\"accordion__title\" id=\"flush-heading_2463_1\">\n        <button class=\"accordion__trigger\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#flush-collapse_2463_1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"flush-collapse_2463_1\">\n          Ramps<span class=\"sp-before-icon\"><\/span>\n        <\/button>\n      <\/h3>\n      <\/h2>\n      <div role=\"region\" id=\"flush-collapse_2463_1\" class=\"accordion__content\" aria-labelledby=\"flush-heading_2463_1\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionFlush2463\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__content-wrap text-content\"><h4>Powerchair<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The caregiver stays on the side of the joystick.<\/li>\n<li>If the chair dies, be prepared to do a manual push.<\/li>\n<li>If the caregiver needs to rest, turn the chair perpendicular to the ramp, and the chair will remain stationary.<\/li>\n<li>The patient can partially tilt back while going down a ramp to feel more stable.<\/li>\n<li>The patient should NOT be in tilt while going up a ramp.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Manual chair<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Caregiver always has hands placed on the chair when going down ramps.<\/li>\n<li>The patient will do short pushes at first and then more full-range pushes once his\/her momentum goes up the ramp.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Sidewalks<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Always avoid any large cracks, holes, or debris on the sidewalk. The chair may get stuck or messed up.<\/li>\n<li>Stay in the middle of the sidewalk. The middle is usually the flattest and most stable.<\/li>\n<li>The caregiver should always walk on the side of traffic so that they are between the patient and the cars in the street.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Curb cut-outs<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Square up behind the yellow curb-cut box. It is important to stay behind the yellow box so that if cars round the corner too sharply and the back tires come up onto the sidewalk, the patient is out of harm\u2019s way.<\/li>\n<li>Always enter at the flattest part of the curb cutout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n                                  <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n          <div class=\"accordion__accordion\">\n      <h3 class=\"accordion__title\" id=\"flush-heading_2463_2\">\n        <button class=\"accordion__trigger\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#flush-collapse_2463_2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"flush-collapse_2463_2\">\n          Crossing the street<span class=\"sp-before-icon\"><\/span>\n        <\/button>\n      <\/h3>\n      <\/h2>\n      <div role=\"region\" id=\"flush-collapse_2463_2\" class=\"accordion__content\" aria-labelledby=\"flush-heading_2463_2\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionFlush2463\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__content-wrap text-content\"><ul>\n<li>The caregiver should always cross on the patient&#8217;s side where there will be oncoming traffic.<\/li>\n<li>The caregiver will be more visible to oncoming cars as they will be taller than the patient, who is at a seated level.<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrians have the right of way while in the crosswalk. Even if the crosswalk timer is running out, continue to cross the street as normal.<\/li>\n<li>If the crosswalk is unfamiliar, wait one full rotation of the light before crossing. This will ensure that you know how much time you have to cross the street once the light turns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n                                  <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div
